Lumberton, NC – What Hurricane Matthew did to Jeannette Santa Cruz Heredia’s double-wide mobile home still moves her to tears. “The whole place started shaking and then the roof split open down the middle. Water was pouring in, and there was no way to stop it,” she remembers. “It was a very ugly, terrible situation.”
Because the storm also destroyed Heredia’s walls, floors and electrical box, Heredia needed financial help to make her home livable again. She learned about ReBuild NC and decided to apply. “I did all the steps they asked,” she says. “They sent an inspector to my home — he took pictures of the damage so they could determine what to do for me.”
Heredia was overjoyed when she got the news: “ReBuild NC told me I was getting a whole new mobile home,” she says. “I was crying happy tears. I would finally feel safe again.”
Throughout the process, Heredia’s case manager kept her informed. She remembers, “If I called, she always called me back. She answered every question.” The contractor assigned to Heredia’s project by ReBuild NC also surpassed her expectations. “The crew’s dedication to the job was epic,” she says. “They demolished my old home and set up my new one in about five weeks. It was so fast, I was shocked!”
Heredia encourages homeowners with hurricane damage to try ReBuild NC. “This program is for real,” she says. “ReBuild NC just wants the best for everyone.”
