State Disaster Recovery Task Force

When hurricanes, wildfires and other disasters hit North Carolina, local governments may need state assistance as their communities recover. The State Disaster Recovery Task Force (SDRTF) supports and advises state agencies, such as NC Office of Recovery and Resiliency (NCORR) and NC Emergency Management (NCEM), as they address long-term recovery and build future resilience.

Recovery Support Functions

The SDRTF is made up of 12 subcommittees called Recovery Support Functions (RSFs). Since the SDRTF was created shortly before Hurricane Matthew in 2016, the SDRTF as a whole has convened, as have six of the 12 RSFs, to address the unmet needs of the communities impacted by Hurricanes Dorian, Florence and Matthew, and Tropical Storm Fred, and to plan for future impacts from natural disasters compounded by climate change and sea level rise.

State and local agencies, nonprofits and community organizations active in disaster recovery and resilience-building contribute to the RSFs. They provide technical expertise and policy direction to NCORR and NCEM to address unmet needs and ongoing barriers to recovery. Only the Environmental Preservation RSF is currently active.
